The Agent Relationship

Insurance by Burley

An insurance policy is a contract between just two parties:
The Named Insured (you) and the Insurer (the insurance company).

The Agent Relationship

Do we sell insurance at Insurance by Burley? Technically, no. Unlike when a bookstore sells a book they purchased from a publisher, or an artist who sells an item they have created, an insurance agent does not directly sell a product or service.

Instead, Insurance by Burley will help you identify what coverage you need and what is available in the insurance market. We then assist you when purchasing the coverage you specify directly from the carrier you choose. While we will provide informed recommendations, the coverage our clients purchase is ultimately their choice.

And that process must be ongoing. Construction costs have recently escalated, and we encourage you to continually evaluate whether your policy limits are sufficient to rebuild your structures. Insurance by Burley does not present itself as an expert in the field of residential or commercial construction, so please consider expert builders’ opinions and decide whether you have enough coverage in place.

An insurance policy is a contract between just two parties: The Named Insured (you) and the Insurer (the insurance company). The agent is not a legal party to the contract, which is why we put our clients in charge of their own coverage decisions. Think of a server in a restaurant; their role is to provide you with a menu of available options, answer questions, make recommendations, take your order, and deliver your order to you. An insurance agent acts in much the same capacity, taking your order just as you instruct us. Of course, choosing insurance protection can be much more complicated than placing a food order, but the agent-client relationship is similar.

So, back to our question: Do we sell insurance?

No, we help you buy insurance!
